Just in time for Halloween

I’m finishing my 21-day cleanse this week. But while I won’t jump right into Halloween candy, I need an alternative, because “[a] little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men.”

Nevertheless, I need an alternative (I want chocolate), so this is my excuse to finally make these Double Chocolate Quinoa Cookies.

Shubh Diwali!

Our next Noontime Nourish falls on the Hindu festival of Diwali. Here is a blessing I came upon a few years ago in the Times of India. The post on the longer-form blog has a more detailed description of the significance of the festival.

The Considered Kula

Today is Diwali.

May the lamps of love and devotion burn brightly in your hearts
May the light of understanding shine in your minds,
May the light of harmony glow in your home
May the bright rays of service shine forth ceaselessly from your hands.
May your smile, your words, and your actions be as sweet as the sweets of this festive season.
May Mahalakshmi bring you the true wealth of peace, health, happiness, and love.

Roasted Coconut Sesame Oatmeal – Ayurvedic Diet & Recipes

Perhaps knowing I’ve been having a pretty stressful week, or perhaps simply because we are likely to have this foundation of exchange, a dear friend shared this recipe with me yesterday afternoon. I made it this morning. I won’t say that it has made all the difference, but it makes enough so I’d notice, going about my day. Please enjoy, and comment to share about your variations.

Enjoy the satisfying creaminess of piping hot oatmeal topped with the nutty aroma of roasted sesame and coconut. As the weather turns cool in early fall, your body seems to crave the hearty warmth of roasted nuts & grains. Here the bold & flavorful crunch of roasted coconut & sesame adds more than adventure. Sesames natural warming properties make for a robust start to a hectic day, while coconuts sweetness is a stress-soothing balm on busy, bustling mornings. Life seems more comfortable after this rich, nourishing breakfast treat.

Just a note about the Joyful Belly site: it will ask you for an e-mail address before sharing the recipe. Let me know if you have any problems with that.
